This week we were delighted to host a landmark conference in the Aula Maxima celebrating a century of radio in Ireland.

An Taoiseach, Mícheál Martin TD, and many broadcasters from RTÉ, Newstalk, Today FM and independent radio joined us for two days of presentations and discussions on the history and future of Irish radio in the context of sport, music, the Irish language, women on radio and a range of other topics.

Radio broadcasting began in Ireland one hundred years ago and, since then, has evolved and grown into today’s diverse landscape of RTÉ services, Irish language services, and commercial radio stations. Throughout that time, Irish radio has provided a platform for diverse voices and debate, offering timely, independent information to support public decision making.

Here at UCC, we are proud to be part of that history. We have had an official student radio station, UCC 98.3FM, since 1995. This station broadcasts 24 hours a day from our Hub building in the heart of our campus, and plays an important educational and cultural role in the lives of our students.
