2026 Stripe YSTE Winner Visits UCC
UCC recently hosted the winner of the 62nd Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (YSTE). Aoibheann Daly’s winning project, titled GlioScope: Multi-task Deep Learning and Causal AI for Glioma & Glioblastoma Profiling, is an AI-powered diagnostic tool that analyzes MRI brain scans to identify genetic mutations in tumours.
Her innovative tool aims to help doctors make faster treatment decisions and potentially reduce the need for biopsies.
Aoibheann is a 15-year-old fourth-year student from Mercy Secondary School, Mounthawk in Tralee, Co. Kerry. Accompanied by her parents, Anne and John, Aoibheann was welcomed to the President’s Office on 19 February by UCC President Professor John O’Halloran for a special event celebrating her achievement.
The meeting was also attended by Lenka Forrest, Head of Student Recruitment; Michele Power, Manager of the Quercus Talented Students’ Programme; and Professor Helen Whelton, Head of the College of Medicine and Health. During the meeting, the group discussed pathways in higher education and outlined the scholarships available to Stripe YSTE winners for their first year at UCC. Further details are available here.
