UCC students take home the prizes at the Irish Association of Pharmacologists annual meeting in Trinity College Dublin

UCC students Lianne Mulder and Robert Callaghan took home both prizes at the  Irish Association of Pharmacologists annual meeting in Trinity College Dublin on Friday 11th November 

The Irish Association of Pharmacologists held their annual meeting in Trinity College Dublin on Friday the 11th of November. Run from the Department of Pharmacology, the IAP is an important association in Ireland, bringing a voice to pharmacology research, academics early career researchers and pharmacology students.

 

Members of the Department of Pharmacology were delighted to visit Trinity College Dublin for the IAP annual meeting. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The day started with poster displays which delegates had an hour to view. The day continued with many informative presentations across a range of topics from both students and early career researchers.

 

For the final part of the day the judge had the difficult decision of awarding 2 prizes, one for the best poster presentation, and the other for the best oral presentation.

 

Amid stiff competition, two UCC students took home both prizes which were awarded by Professor Christian Waeber , President of the Irish Association of Pharamcologist and Head of the Department of Pharmacology here in UCC. 

 

 

Leanne Mulder won the best poster with the poster of her research titled “Delivery of Tie2 mRNA to the endothelium as a novel strategy for the treatment of sepsis-induced multiple organ failure

Robert Callaghan received the prize for the best oral presentation. His presentation was titled “Quantitative analysis of the use of non-sensorimotor behavioural tests in the experimental stroke literature

Congratulations to both Robert and Lianne on their prizes. 

 

 

In addition, this year the Irish Association of Pharmacologists welcomed posters on the topics of pharmacology eductaion. The Department of Pharmacology had two additional posters on display. 

 

 

One titled " Making the Disciplinary Assesment Literacy of Pharmacology Explicit" by Dr Roisin Kelly-Laubscher.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The second poster by Dr Orla Barry & Professor Christian Waeber was titled " Implementation of Educational Mind Maps to promote integrated learning in basic and clinical pharmacology"
