Jatin Nagpal Awarded APC Future Leaders Award for Pioneering Microbiome Research

The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at University College Cork (UCC) is delighted to announce that Jatin Nagpal, has been awarded the prestigious APC Future Leaders Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to microbiome research. Nagpal’s work focuses on the intricate relationship between microbiota and brain function, particularly examining how these interactions influence stress-related behaviours.
Jatin’s accomplishments reflect his leadership and vision in the field. He has recently secured the highly competitive Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Pathways grant, which supports early-career researchers and their novel investigations. Additionally, he has led the redevelopment of APC’s zebrafish facility, enhancing its research capabilities with further support from the HEAREG grant. The zebrafish model is now better equipped than ever for exploring complex microbiome interactions, thanks to Jatin’s commitment to advancing research infrastructure.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Jatin serves as co-chair of UCC’s Race Equality Network, underscoring his dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the academic community. Through his mentorship, outreach initiatives, and collaborative projects, he is setting a new standard for leadership in both research and academia.
