Congratulations to Robert Callaghan, Recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

12 Dec 2025

The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics is delighted to congratulate Robert Callaghan, who has been awarded the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Postgraduate Tutor and Demonstrator category.

The President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching are the longest running awards of their kind in Ireland and highlight UCC’s commitment to being a truly student centred university. The awards recognise exceptional dedication, innovation, and professionalism in teaching, ensuring that UCC students receive the highest quality learning experience.

Nominations were invited from students, staff, and alumni across the university, and fourteen awards were presented on Thursday, 4 December, in the Aula Maxima. With an exceptionally strong field of nominees, the Awards Selection Committee faced a challenging task in choosing the final recipients. Being nominated is a significant achievement in itself, and we extend our congratulations to all who were recognised.

Robert, a PhD candidate with the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and the School of Pharmacy, has demonstrated outstanding commitment to teaching and student support. His enthusiasm, clarity, and engaging approach have made a meaningful impact on the learning experience of many students, and this award is a testament to his dedication.

We are incredibly proud of Robert’s achievement and are delighted to see his contribution to teaching excellence formally acknowledged.

Congratulations, Robert, on this very well deserved honour.
