Join Peer Support

Recruitment for UCC Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) for 2025/2026 has now opened.

What do Peer Support Leaders do?

The UCC Peer Support programme works from the simple idea that students develop a vast amount of knowledge and a unique perspective relating to the student experience of UCC during their time here, and passing on that information to new students will benefit their transition into university and UCC as a whole. Therefore, every incoming first-year and undergraduate international student in UCC is linked to a PSL. A PSL is one of the first people new students will meet during orientation and will be their guide on their first day in UCC. Throughout the year PSLs keep periodic contact with their students, ensuring they settle into life in UCC and become a part of the university community.

Why should you join UCC Peer Support?

A few of the many reasons for getting involved in UCC Peer Support are highlighted below:

  • Upon fulfilling the criteria you are awarded one of two certificates
  • Volunteering experience for your CV
  • Getting involved in other voluntary and work opportunities during your tenure
  • You will gain invaluable training and skills relating to leadership, teamwork, time management, presentation skills, public speaking, etc.
  • A chance to help your fellow students through their transitional period
  • Become part of a wider community of students from every course in the university

What experience is required?

Whilst previous voluntary work may be helpful to you as a PSL, it is not a requirement. We are simply looking for enthusiastic students who are willing to commit to helping their peers. All of the required skill sets to be successful in the role will be covered in the training process.

What commitment is required?

To become a PSL you will need to complete two days of training. These are a one-day session, which is offered on a variety of dates after the completion of the current academic year and a final training day just prior to the commencement of orientation.

As a PSL you will firstly volunteer at orientation. You will then continue ongoing contact with your assigned students throughout the academic year.

How do I apply?

The application process is a simple online form to be filled out alongside a creative submission consisting of answering a question in whatever format you wish. All information is available on the application form below.

Applications for the 2025/2026 academic year close on Sunday, 18th May, 2025. The application form can be found here.
