The Art of Making
How does making art impact on health? First Year Occupational Therapy students will offer their own answers to this question at an art exhibition on Tuesday 13th May at UCC’s Jennings Gallery.
The print and textile exhibition, entitled ‘The Art of Making’, seeks to highlight the importance of the relationship between the maker and the object. The art of making is a journey that is personal, shared and a celebration of who we are. The opening reception is on Tuesday 13 May at 5.30pm in the Jennings Gallery, located on the first floor of the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC. The exhibition will remain open until Tuesday 10th June.
The exhibition, organised by the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and the Jennings Gallery, UCC, is the culmination of six weeks work by the students, who worked in tandem with the Cork Printmakers and Frances Leach of Cork Textiles Network, to create this unique take on our working world.
Dr Karen McCarthy, Lecturer in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, and co-ordinator of the exhibition, says, “As future OTs, first year students at UCC have seized the opportunity to make something that didn’t exist before. Every day we make something, whether we make dinner or make a difference. Through this engagement in the ‘art of making’, the students have transformed their ideas and creativity into art and we invite you to come and enjoy their talents.”
