'Self portrait of me as a legoman' - just one of many contributions showcasing the creative talents of children on the autism spectrum

The Jennings Gallery will host the opening of a children’s art exhibition this evening (2nd April) at 5.30pm called ‘Celebrate Your Autism’ as part of International Autism Awareness Day.

UCC will also light up blue to mark the day.

Organised by the regional Autism team for Cork and Kerry, the exhibition will highlight the creative talents of children on the autism spectrum. It will be officially opened by Cllr. Catherine Clancy, Lord Mayor of Cork City.

The event is the culmination of five workshops facilitated by local professional artists, as well as pieces created by children independently and in clubs and schools across Cork City. The project is co-ordinated by Maria Gleeson, Speech and Language Therapist (Regional Autism Team) and artist Conall Cary.

Visitors are welcome to view the exhibition at the Jennings Gallery, College of Medicine and Health from the 2nd- 25th April, 2014, 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday.

In addition to the exhibition, buildings and businesses in Cork City will light up blue for International Autism Awareness Day and Anglesea Street Fire Station and Garda Station will hold a display of fire trucks, bikes and cars. There will also be a children’s party in the Market Tavern with music and treats.
