UCC Societies recently won three awards at the 2013 finals of the National Board of Irish College Societies Awards, held in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, Co Westmeath.

This is the highest accolade in the Societies calendar and UCC were winners in Best Event, Best Online Promotion and Fresher of the Year.

Fighting off stiff competition from several other third level institutions, UCC Societies clearly impressed the adjudicating panels with the calibre of its students and finished the night joint top place with NUIG, who also scooped 3 awards.

Samantha Cooney, a first year student, won “Fresher of the Year” for her work in UCC Amnesty Society and impressed the judges with her work ethic and contribution to raising awareness on children’s rights.

The UCC Philosophical Society won “Best Online Presence” utilising their website and social media in the promotion of their society both on and off the campus.
