Staff success at political science conference

UCC staff swept the board at the recent annual Political Studies Association of Ireland (PSAI) conference.
Drs Emmanuelle Schön-Quinlivan, Mary C. Murphy and Cara Nine scooped three out of four awards given at the October conference in Trinity College Dublin.
Dr Schön-Quinlivan and Dr Murphy, of UCC’s Department of Government, won the ‘best paper’ and ‘teaching and learning’ awards respectively, while Dr. Nine of Philosophy won the ‘best book’ award for her book Global Justice and Territory.
UCC’s Department of Government was heavily involved in the conference, with eight staff members presenting papers, various staff chairing panels and a number of PhD graduates from the Department presenting papers. The conference also saw the launch of a special issue of the PSAI’s journal Irish Political Studies on ‘Politics and Gender on the Island of Ireland: The Quest for Agency’, co-edited by Ms. Fiona Buckley of the Department of Government and Prof. Yvonne Galligan of Queen’s University Belfast.
Dr. Andrew Cottey, Head of the Department of Government said: ‘We are very proud that UCC continues to make a major contribution to the study of politics in Ireland.’
