Future business leaders visit Cork

9 Apr 2013
Visiting Cork recently were students from the MBA programme in the Yale School of Management. From L-R: Senan Ensko, UCC Executive MBA programme, Dominic Galvin, CFO Zenith Technologies, Diana Aitova, Yale MBA and Andy Cook, Yale MBA

As part of the International Experience element of their MBA programme, 23 Yale School of Management students visited Cork recently.

The students come from Finance, Science and Engineering backgrounds, and are from the US, China, Canada and India. The Yale MBA is ranked No. 14 in the Financial Times Top 100 Global MBA Rankings, and is one of the most prestigious programmes in the United States. As such its students are the business leaders of the future.

The focus of the visit has been to look at Cork’s strength in research centres and production facilities, and to examine the interaction between the two areas. The UCC Executive MBA programme assisted in facilitating this visit, through setting up visits to a number of Cork based organisations.

To that end the Yale students visited the Tyndall Institute where they heard about the role Tyndall’s research has played in industry innovation and development, with a focus on research in the energy sector. They also visited IMERC in Ringaskiddy, the Irish Maritime and Energy research cluster. The group also undertook visits to EMC, Heineken Ireland and PepsiCo, as examples of long established MNC production facilities.

It was important that the group be aware of the strength of indigenous Irish industries and to that end a visit was organised to Zenith Technologies in Ringaskiddy, who are a great example of an Irish company which has expanded to achieve a global reach, through their use of innovative technologies and a firm customer focus. They now have bases in Ireland, the UK, Germany, Singapore, India, China, and the USA.
