Conference to create 100 social newsmakers

UCC has teamed up with MediaContact.ie to launch Cork’s inaugural Social Newsmaker Conference on 5 March 2013. Do you want to know how to tell your story online?

 

Also sponsored by the Irish Examiner, the mission of the half-day conference is to inspire 100 organisations to join the social news revolution by learning from the best social news creators around.

Speaking at the announcement, Managing Director of Mediacontact.ie Jack Murray said: “Knowing how to effectively create and spread social news is now essential to being a successful organisation. While many companies are good at telling stories the traditional way, they need to sharpen their social media skills in order to reach new audiences."

The conference will hear from some of Ireland’s most inspiring social media communicators, including (amongst others):

  • Elaine Doyle, Marketing Campaign Manager, Cully & Sully (@cullyandsully - Elaine Doyle completed a Masters in Food Marketing in UCC in 2007 whilst also developing www.cullyandsully.com The website went on to win best FMCG website and best overall website at the Golden Spider awards.
  • Colm O'Regan, author and comedian, Irish Mammies (@irishmammies) - Comedian, bestselling author and broadcaster, hailing from the small Co. Cork village of Dripsey, Colm’s debut book ‘Isn’t it well for ye: The book of Irish Mammies’ is already a bestseller and was nominated for an Irish book award.
  • Denis Hanly, Chief Military Spokesperson, Irish Defence Forces (@defenceforces) - Denis Hanly is the Chief Military Spokesperson for the Irish Defence Forces. Having had a long career of military service that includes service in Lebanon, Kosovo and Afghanistan, he is now responsible for developing and implementing the Irish Defence Force's strategic communications policy.
  • Barry Kenny, Corporate Communications Manager, Irish Rail (@irishrail) - Best known for representing the company in the broadcast and print media, Barry is also responsible for social media policy and development and liaison with the public.
  • Adriaan Bartels, General Manger, Cliff House Hotel (@CliffHouseHotel) - The Cliff House Hotel is a five-star, privately owned luxury hotel located in Ardmore Bay, Co. Waterford. Adriaan is a Masters graduate of Hospitality Management from DIT and has over 23 years in the hotel managerial industry since graduating in 1989. He became General Manager of the Cliff House Hotel in 2008 and is accredited with establishing the hotel’s reputation for precision and old-world service. Adriaan was born in Kitale, Kenya but has quickly become one of Ireland’s best-known hotel managers due to his understanding of standards and of the importance of personal communication.
  • Fiona Kearney, Director of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery (@glucksman) - Throughout her academic and professional career, Fiona has received several distinguished awards including the designation of college scholar by UCC, the NUI Prix d'Honneur from the French Government, a UCC President’s Award for Research on Innovative Forms of Teaching, a Fulbright scholarship and the Jerome Hynes Fellowship on the Clore Leadership Programme. She is currently a member of the Arts Council of Ireland. In her current position, she has curated Living/Loss: The Experience of Illness in Art, Modern American Painting from the NYU Art Collection; The Year of the Golden Pig: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Sigg Collection and the award-winning Through the Looking Glass: Childhood in Contemporary Photography.
  • Michael Walsh, Marketing Director, Dubarry of Ireland (@Dubarry_com) - Dubarry is one of Ireland’s most respected and successful companies. It has expanded its international sourcing network since it began 70 years ago, working closely with carefully selected contract partners leading to Dubarry being recognised around the world. Michael Walsh is a marketing graduate of NUI Galway and has over 18 years experience in the business developing his social media, marketing, marketing communications and marketing strategy skills.
