Conference: Reforming Abortion Law

Reforming Abortion Law: Comparative Perspectives organised by the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights takes place today, Friday 22 March from 1.00-5.30pm in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.

This conference brings together leading international experts in the fields of comparative constitutional law, gender and law, and abortion law reform and it provides a timely opportunity to reflect on and analyse the regulation of abortion in Ireland, across Europe and in the USA. Combining academic and practitioner insights, the seminar will inform current debates on reproductive and sexual health and human rights in Ireland today. This event will also mark the launch of the Gender, Law and Sexuality (GLAS) research initiative in the Faculty of Law, UCC.

Speakers at this event include:  Professor Carol Sanger, Barbara Aronstein Black, Professor of Law, Columbia University, NY; Professor Blanca Rodriguez Ruiz, University of Sevilla, Spain; Dr. Ruth Fletcher, Keele University, UK; Johanna Westeson, Centre for Reproductive Rights; Professor Siobhán Mullally, UCC; Dr. Claire Murray, UCC.

The conference Chair is the Hon. Mr. Justice Seán Ryan of the High Court (Chair of the Expert Group on the judgment in the A, B and C v Ireland case). 

The event is supported by funding from an Irish Research Council New Foundations Award and the Dean of Law Strategic Fund.
