Two new history books were launched recently at UCC, ‘An Economic History of Ireland since Independence’ and ‘Great Deeds in Ireland: Richard Stanihurst's De Rebus in Hibernia Gestis’.

‘An Economic History of Ireland since Independence’, by Andy Bielenberg and Raymond Ryan (Routledge) provides a compelling summary of the economic history of the Irish Free State/Republic of Ireland.

‘Great Deeds in Ireland: Richard Stanihurst's De Rebus in Hibernia Gestis’, by John Barry & Hiram Morgan (Cork University Press) represents the first full translation of the controversial Latin history of Ireland by the famous Dublin intellectual, Richard Stanihurst.

Well attended by many friends and colleagues of the authors and editors and hosted by the UCC Humanities Platform (PRTLI4), the event was opened by Professor Patrick O'Donovan, Vice-Head for Research in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences. A presentation was given by Dr Hiram Morgan, Project Leader of PRTLI4, before Professor Emeritus of Irish History, John A. Murphy, launched both books.
