Killian Daly, a third-year Energy Engineering student at UCC, recently came second in the Ireland Funds Business Plan Competition (IFBPC), winning €5,000.

Over 100 business and education leaders from Ireland and the US were present at the announcement of the IFPBC winners, held in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Teams from each of the nine universities across Ireland and Northern Ireland were selected to present innovative business plans for consideration.

Killian developed a business plan around a product called ReVac™, which is a unique and innovative technology that combines the combative properties of low temperature and vacuum storage against food spoiling, greatly increasing longevity of food freshness.

Lukas Decker from University College Dublin was the winner with his business plan that introduced “Coindrum”, a simple business plan to exchange coins from airline travelers.

Congratulating Killian Daly, Dr Michael Creed, Head of the School of Engineering at UCC, commented: “The combination of technical knowledge and business acumen shown by Killian in winning the first runner-up award in this prestigious competition, from a strong field of high-achievers with postgraduate degrees, is a striking example of the talent and energy of our undergraduate engineering students.”

“It is all the more remarkable that Killian undertook this project as an extra-curricular activity on top of his normal demanding academic workload. His achievement will serve to inspire his fellow engineering students to seek to make a difference in facing the many engineering challenges which must be overcome to ensure a sustainable future for our society.”
