Dr Eleanor O’Sullivan, Cork University Dental School and Hospital
Dr O’Sullivan, a clinical lecturer in oral surgery, received recognition for her work as chair of the Mouth Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Ireland campaign and for her work caring for head and neck cancer patients. Dr O’Sullivan is responsible for spearheading Ireland’s annual mouth cancer awareness days which last year saw more than 10,000 people screened nationwide.
A lack of public awareness of head, neck cancer led Dr O’Sullivan and colleagues in UCC, together with the Irish Cancer Society, the Irish Dental Association, the Dublin Dental University Hospital, the Dental Health Foundation and Head, Neck Cancer survivors to establish the awareness campaign in 2009.
