The overall objectives of the symposium are to mark the centenary of the appointment of the first woman professor in Ireland, Professor Mary Ryan and also to explore the wider historical narrative of women in higher education, with special emphasis on UCC. The symposium will also examine contemporary issues such as the proportionally decreasing numbers of women at senior levels in University posts than was the case in the past as well as exploring the role of women in technology and science in the higher level sector.
