Professor Anthony Ryan, Paediatrics & Child Health Department, UCC said: “This novel, full-featured app on Newborn Intubation, developed by a multidisciplinary team in UCC, with its evidence-based text and realistic video-recordings of simulated resuscitation scenarios, will introduce students from Medicine, Nursing and Paramedics to the fundamentals of newborn intubation. Clearly this is a well-developed design and application with excellent overall educational value that will appeal to many learners and many learning styles involved in newborn care.
Congratulating the team on the app launch, Professor Ciaran Murphy, Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, UCC, commented: “The department is delighted to have collaborated with our colleagues in Neonatology to produce a smart phone app that we know will have a real impact on skill development in the treatment of premature or newborn babies. This is an excellent example of the positive outcomes arising from our joint work in health informatics.”
The project is collaboration between the Department of Neonatology in Cork University Maternity Hospital and Business Information Systems, University College Cork. Dr Colin Hawkes and Consultant Neonatologist, Dr Eugene Dempsey compiled the medical information and media, while the app was developed by Stefan Hanotin, Dr Brian O’Flaherty and Simon Woodworth (BIS, UCC).
The iPhone app is available on the Apple app store as NeoTube.
