In an opening address, Professor Anita Maguire, Vice President Research and Innovation, welcomed Dr McLoughlin, reiterated UCCs commitment to environmental compliance and described the mechanism of operation of the Biosafety Committee, covering the handling and safe usage of Genetically Modified Organisms. She also acknowledged the key contributions of Dr Colman Casey, Chair of the Biosafety Committee, Pat Casey, Biosafety Officer and Aisling Doyle over the past year in developing our processes to ensure compliance in UCC. Dr McLoughlin then gave a lecture on the Implementation of the Genetically Modified Organisms Regulations in Ireland by the EPA, before officially launching the website which was demonstrated by its designer, Aisling Doyle.
