The UCC Confucius Institute (CI) was represented at the 5th World Confucius Institute Conference in Beijing hosted by the Ministry of Education earlier this month.  More than 1400 people from 322 Confucius Institutes in 96 countries participated at the conference.  UCC was represented by its President, Dr Michael Murphy, Professor Fan Hong, Head of UCC's School of Asian Studies and Director of UCC Confucius Institute and Dr Zhu Yanwei, Chinese Director of the UCC Confucius Institute.

Dr Michael Murphy was awarded the Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award of the Year 2010 for his excellent leadership and for the University’s CI's outstanding performance in 2010. The President was presented with the award from Li Changchun, Standing Committee Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. Dr Murphy also gave a presentation titled "UCC and the Confucius Institute Working Together for Irish Economic Recovery: Enhancing Students’ Job Prospects and Career Development" at the President’s Forum.

The UCC CI's text books: Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture and The Business Chinese Language and Culture - Elementary were displayed at the International Chinese Teaching Resources Exhibition during the Conference.
