University Staff Recognition Awards Programme 2010

At an inaugural Awards Ceremony on October 19th 2010, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy, presented awards to six staff of the University, recognising their outstanding achievement and contributions towards realising the vision and goals of UCC.

The University Staff Recognition Awards Programme acknowledges staff for individual or team accomplishments and provides a forum to publicly acknowledge their achievement to the University and the wider community. 

The Awards Programme is an initiative of UCC’s Staff Enhancement and Professional Development Committee (SEPDC) and is funded from the President’s Strategic Initiative Fund. It is anticipated that these awards will be offered on an annual basis.

The six recipients were chosen from a total of 20 nominees for Awards across the following three categories:
1.    Outstanding Accomplishment
a.    Early Career Academic Achievement Award (for academic staff)
b.    Rising Star Award (all other staff)
2.    Leadership Award (all staff)
3.    Exceptional Citizen Award (all staff)

The awardees are:
Dr Ron Pinhasi
, Department of Archaeology, Early Career Academic Achievement Award
Dr Siobhan Wills
, Faculty of Law, Early Career Academic Achievement Award
Ms Michelle Nelson
, Graduate Studies Office, Rising Star Award
Dr Ger Fitzgibbon
, Drama & Theatre Studies, Leadership Award
Ms Valerie Cummins
, Maritime and Energy Research Campus and Commercial Cluster (MERC³), Leadership Award
Mr Pat Cotter
, General Services, Exceptional Citizen Award

Membership of the Selection Committees comprised:
Chair:                   Professor Helen Whelton (Chair of SEPDC)
Vice Chair:           External Member of Governing Body
Other members:   Two members of the SEPDC plus Staff Representative

Recipients of Awards each received a specially commissioned canvas by the Irish artist, Shane Johnson.  Each painting relates to UCC and specifically to the achievements of the awardees.  Further information about Shane Johnson can be found at: http://www.shanejohnsonartist.com/
