The new website which was re-launched on July 29th 2010 has seen a massive demand with the milestone reached on the 58th day since its re-launch.
The statistics also show that web-traffic has massively improved year-over-year, with web-traffic in September 2010 being over four times the amount in September 2009.
UCC Students’ Union also leads the way with Facebook
recording the highest number of followers among Student Unions in Irish
universities. Facebook is a popular social networking tool used by many
students in UCC. As of today, the UCC Students' Union has over 6,100 'fans'
meaning that the Union has a powerful connection to each student who follows.
UCCSU is the highest SU in Ireland for followers on Twitter (username: @UCCSU), nearly double the nearest SU, UCDSU and also maintains an active Youtube presence.
President of UCC Students' Union, Keith O' Brien, said: "These figures are extremely encouraging for UCCSU, ranking us above the biggest SUs in Ireland, i.e. UCD SU and the national union, USI. In the 2009 SU elections, we made a great deal of noise on the issue of transparency, accountability and communication between the SU and its members. The fact that we continue to grow in numbers on a daily basis shows that students are taking an active interest in the work of UCC SU, and provides both businesses and government with a crystal-clear indication of the continuing success of our communication/marketing strategies and our role in influencing the student population.” Keith extended his thanks to online administrator, Cian O’Mahony and SU Deputy President, Daithi Linnane for all their hard work to date.
