UCC research conducted by Lyndsey El Amoud and Joan Buckley, to be presented at the seminar, has found that more than 10,000 third-level students are on work placement in Ireland each year, and that placement is becoming increasingly significant in the curriculum of a wide variety of course across all the HEIs in the country. It is a key area of partnership between employers and educational institutions, and other research to be presented by Liz Kennedy Burke of DIT indicates the significant value placed on this learning experience by students. Among the matters to be discussed at the event is the impact of the current economic environment on this vital learning activity. Attendees will engage in a series of guided discussions in an attempt to develop solutions to obstacles in the field, and establish alternative paths for placement programmes in the changed global economic environment.
