The Irish Journal of Sociology (IJS) - the peer-reviewed journal of the Sociological Association of Ireland (SAI) - is currently edited in Sociology at UCC. A publishing contract for the IJS was secured with Manchester University Press in 2009.

The editors are pleased to announce that the first Manchester published edition has just become available on-line at http://www.ingentaconnect.com

Founded in 1991, the journal aims to publish original high quality articles of interest to an international sociological audience while also remaining a forum for material that is directly engaged with Irish society. The Editorial Team includes:

A general editorial board, comprised of the staff in Sociology, is further supported by an International Advisory Board.

Over the last 17 years, the IJS has gradually carved out a distinctive space for itself in the field of sociological inquiry. Now based in UCC, it continues to show a fundamental commitment to theoretically informed work and sociological research with an innovative edge.  Whilst supporting the continuing relevance of classical social theory to contemporary everyday life, the IJS also calls attention to new or less developed  areas of research  in the hope of awakening wider sociological interest. It is centrally concerned with the inter-relationship between national  sociological traditions and new international trends, as well as global developments.

The journal welcomes articles which reflect key debates and issues.  Contributors are expected to comply with the submission guidelines outlined on http://www.sociology.ie/   To contact the editorial team, email:  ijs@sociology.ie
