The 4th World Confucius Institute Conference

UCC's Confucius Institute (CI) was represented by a delegation at the 4th World Confucius Institute Conference in Beijing on December 11th 2009.
The aim of the conference was to show teaching achievements of Confucius Institutes around the world and build up a platform for experience exchange. More than 500 people from 288 Confucius Institutes around the world participated at the conference including University Presidents where Confucius Institutes are located, representatives of Confucius Institutes and Chinese partner universities.

UCC was represented at the conference by Professor Paul Giller, Registrar and Senior Vice-President Academic, Mr Éamonn Sweeney, Vice President for External Relations, Professor Fan Hong, Head of the School of Asian Studies and Director of the UCC CI, Mr Yang Zengxiang, Chinese Director of the UCC CI and Dr Xiong Huan, lecturer from Chinese Studies (UCC).

The President’s Forum & Sub-Session Discussion discussed practical issues of the development of Confucius Institutes. Mr Éamonn Sweeney was invited to give a presentation on “How the Confucius Institute at UCC has helped local schools to develop Chinese Programmes”. Professor Fan Hong gave a presentation on “Strategic Plan and the UCC CI'.

The UCC CI also presented at the Confucius Institute Resources and World Language Exhibition, which introduced the teaching and cultural activities undertaken in Ireland between 2008 and 2009.

Five students from the UCC CI were invited to perform at the Gala Evening.
