Rooney Prize for UCC Alumna

UCC alumna and poet, Leanne O'Sullivan, has been awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature 2010.

The award of €10,000, based on her outstanding promise and achievements as a poet, was presented by the American ambassador Dr Daniel M Rooney at his Residence on October 12th.

Leanne O’Sullivan has published two collections of poetry with the prestigious Bloodaxe Press: Waiting for My Clothes (2004) and Cailleach: The Hag of Beara (2009). Leanne O'Sullivan, who comes for the Beara penisula in West Cork, studied English at UCC and received her MA in 2005.  She was also nominated by the poet Michael Longley for the Ireland Chair of Poetry bursary, and her work has been widely acclaimed across the world. Indeed, her work now features on school English syllabuses, and she regularly teaches for the Arvon Foundation.
