Postgraduate Certificates in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education were recently presented to 42 members of staff. The certificate constitutes the first year of a three year programme, offered in UCC on a modular, credit accumulation basis.
The programme, recognised by the National University of Ireland (NUI), is designed to support staff who wish to pursue their teaching as part of their research and to obtain qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education.

All Colleges were represented in the group of 42:
  1. College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences: 10
  2. College of Business and Law: 12
  3. College of Science, Engineering and Food Science: 4
  4. College of Medicine & Health: 16
Speaking at the Presentation of the Awards, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy expressed his delight at presenting “A teaching licence to 42 members of staff”.  The President went on to say that such a broad profile of participation speaks volumes for the importance of teaching and learning across this university and is indicative of the rich, interdisciplinary context which informs the work of Ionad Bairre.

Pictured with UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy are Marian McCarthy, Co-ordinator of the Certificated Programme and Dr Bettie Higgs, Academic Co-ordinator, Ionad Bairre along with Professor Grace Neville, Vice-President for Teaching & Learning, Heads of Departments and members of staff who received the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education.
