Presentation of Certificates and Diplomas in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education

Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas in Teaching & Learning were recently presented to 46 members of UCC staff along with one lecturer from CIT and one from LIT.
This accredited programme, recognised by the National University of Ireland, is designed to support staff who wish to pursue their teaching as part of their research and to obtain qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education.

All Colleges were represented in the group of 46 UCC lecturers:

1.     College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (11)
2.     College of Business and Law (6)
3.     College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (5)
4.     College of Medicine and Health (22)
5.     Centre for Adult & Continuing Education (2)

Speaking at the Presentation of the Awards, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy, expressed his delight at presenting "A teaching licence to 46 members of staff".  The President went on to say that such a broad profile of participation speaks volumes for the importance of teaching and learning across this university and is indicative of the rich, interdisciplinary context which informs the work of Ionad Bairre. The President also thanked the members of the Ionad Bairre team for their commitment to the programme.

Professor Grace Neville, Vice President for Teaching & Learning, welcomed the President and introduced the proceedings.  Dr Bettie Higgs and Marian McCarthy, Co-Directors of Ionad Bairre, were also present.
