Foreign Minister Micheál Martin to launch New Masters in Diplomacy at UCC

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin will launch a new masters in diplomacy at University College Cork on Monday next, March 1st 2010. Minister Martin will formally launch the MBS in International Public Policy and Diplomacy, giving a public lecture on contemporary global challenges.

The MBS in International Public Policy and Diplomacy is a new masters degree targeted at those hoping to work in international affairs. Dr Andrew Cottey, Director of the programme and a Senior Lecturer in UCC’s Department of Government, says: “This is an important and exciting venture for UCC. In the early twenty-first century the world faces a set of major challenges such as a climate change, food security and peacekeeping. We hope to equip students with the knowledge and the skills necessary to make a real contribution to addressing these challenges. We are honoured that Foreign Minister Martin is joining us to launch the programme.”

The MBS International Public Policy and Diplomacy will include modules on contemporary global policy challenges, EU institutions and policies, international and European law, global economic policies and institutions, leadership, and foreign policy and diplomacy, as well as language options. The programme is jointly offered by UCC’s Departments of Government, History, Law, Management and Marketing, and Languages.

The launch and lecture by Foreign Minister Martin will take place on Monday, March 1st, 2.30-3.30pm, Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn Student Centre. The event is open to the general public.
