Doing Something about It - Graduate Career Forum

Like every other section of society, graduates have been hit hard by the economic downturn. The question is, can anything be done about it? University College Cork believes it can and is taking positive action to help graduates improve their prospects of employment.

Starting on May 10th next, UCC will host a Graduate Career Forum with a series of one-day seminars in the university for graduates during which business leaders and recruitment specialists from a variety of industry sectors will share their experience and point graduates in the right direction. Speaking about UCC’s interest in assisting graduates who have been adversely affected by the current downturn, Dr Rónán O Dubhghaill, one of the organisers, said: “Waiting until things get better is simply not an option.  We want to pro-actively help graduates identify relevant opportunities in today’s job markets.”  

The seminars will run daily from May 10th-18th 2010.

10th May - Information & Communications Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Seminar Agenda

10.00 am – 1.00 pm:               Industry Sector Briefings
 
Industry leaders will speak about opportunities for graduates, focusing in particular on emerging trends in that sector, employers’ skills requirements and ways in which graduates can make themselves more employable.  Group discussions will enable attendees to interact with, and seek advice from, industry experts.
 
1.00 pm – 2.00 pm:                 Lunch
2.00 pm – 5.00 pm:                 Career Advice Workshops
 
A series of workshops will be delivered by UCC’s Careers Service and will provide graduates with guidance on career planning and career concept building, creative job hunting and brand visibility, writing CVs for success, one-to-one interviews (the personal sales pitch) and group interviews/assessment centres.
 
Registration
Please register early to secure a place on the industry day/s most relevant to you. Admission:  €25 per participant per day (to cover the cost of refreshments and lunch).  Closing date: April 30th 2010.
