UCC leads the way in Equal Access in Higher Education
14.12.2009

UCC has the highest combined number of full-time mature students, students with a disability and students from targeted socio-economically backgrounds amongst the third level institutions in the country.
The figures for the years 2007 and 2008 were released through equal access data provided by all third level institutions to the Higher Education Authority (HEA) which show UCC leading the way in improving Access and Widening Participation.

Commenting on the data, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy expressed his great satisfaction with the university’s outstanding performance in this strategic area.  He added that UCC is fully committed to supporting the government’s targets as outlined in the National Access Strategic Plan and that the university is well on its way to achieving these goals.

In the University’s Strategic Plan, Access and Widening Participation is a key activity and reaching the targets as set out in the plan will ensure that UCC will continue to be a more inclusive university.

The Director of Access, Dr Denis Staunton, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the hard work carried out by all of the Access staff and also to the important contributions made by the wider university community, including Admissions, Academic Departments and Student Support Services within the university.

Please see http://www.ucc.ie/en/study for further information on the Access offices, UCC PLUS+, Disability Support Services and the Mature Student Office.
