UCC hosts first IUA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) staff workshop
13.03.2009

UCC LGBT Staff network will host a one-day seminar on behalf of the IUA Equality Network, tomorrow Saturday, March 14th 2009 on the challenges and potential opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans staff working in all areas of third level education in Ireland.
Funded by the Equality Authority under the European Year of Equal Opportunities Legacy Fund, it is hoped that this event will provide a forum where issues around visibility, employment, equality status, promotion and pensions can be explored. Professor Helen Whelton, Chair of the UCC Equality Committee will open the event.

The UCC LGBT Staff Network was established in 2007 on foot of a consultation process with interested staff members. This network is the first of its kind in a third level educational institution in Ireland. The aim of the network is to work in partnership with management and staff of University College Cork to create a safe, inclusive and diverse working environment that encourages a culture of respect and equality for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation, in order that every individual can reach their full potential without fear of discrimination.

The UCC network meets at lunch-time on the first Tuesday of every month. Further information on the above event and the Network can be found on http://www.ucc.ie/en/lgbtstaff/
