Theory and Philosophy Summer School
01.05.2009

The School of Sociology and Philosophy at UCC, with support from the Irish Research Council for the Humanities & Social Sciences, is pleased to announce the inaugural "Theory and Philosophy Summer School" at Blackwater Castle, Castletownroche, from May 4th-8th 2009.
The Theory and Philosophy Summer School will bring together internationally renowned scholars, and high-level postgraduate students, for a week-long intensive study course that explores the fundamental questions of value, method, reasoning, analysis and criticism that are central to the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

In many respects, the Theory and Philosophy Summer School reflects both modern Ireland and the picturesque setting of Blackwater Castle in which it takes place. Its scope is international (with participants from Ireland, Canada, Germany, Spain, and the UK), but it is aided and enriched by local community resources. Its focus is contemporary, but never detached from historical considerations. And whilst the discussions to take place are weighty, they will be conducted within a convivial atmosphere of cooperation and shared learning.

The programme features a public lecture on Wednesday, May 6th at 7.30pm by a Brussels expert, titled "'Financialisation' and the global economic crisis."  All are welcome.
