01.05.2009

The Ecology Foundation, in association with Siemens Ireland and in collaboration with the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, UCC, is presenting a series of lectures on climate change and its implications for the future of society.
The lecture series is designed to educate and encourage undergraduate and graduate students to assess how they can play a role in meeting the challenge of tackling climate change.  The lectures not only focus on the challenge of climate change, but also on the positive role science, engineering, innovation and business can make by addressing it.

May 6th - Climate Change - An introduction to climate change and a discussion of the efforts required to meet the climate change challenge.
Lecturer: Tom Bean, Director of Ventures, Ecology Foundation.

May 13th - The Business of Climate Change - An explanation of how climate change will transform global commerce and affect business strategy, illustrating how business can play a leading role to help society adapt to the inevitable challenges.
Lecturer: David Korowicz, Head of Research & Consultant, Ecology Foundation.

May 20th - The Engineering Challenge of Climate Change - A presentation of the major engineering challenges of climate change, looking at the solutions that are ready, those that are in research and development phase and the critical bottle necks in deploying appropriate technology.
Lecturer: Owenroe Lemass, Lead Engineer & Project Manager, Ecology Foundation.

May 27th - Climate Change and the Psychology of Risk and Response – A lecture on what can be learned about attitudes to climate change, understanding the inertia facing the challenge and drawing insights from psychology, evolutionary psychology and game theory.
Lecturer: Mark Rutledge, Country Director – Ireland, Ecology Foundation.

The Ecology Foundation believes that the lectures will be of distinct value to all students, particularly to those studying engineering and business disciplines, and also to the general public.

The lectures will be hosted by UCC as an extension of the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science 2009 Public Lecture Series.  The lectures will run each Wednesday evening in May in Boole 3 Lecture Theatre, UCC, at 8.00pm.  Admission is free and all are welcome.
