Rebecca Storm star attraction for concert on the Quad
19.06.2009

The annual open-air charity concert, A Summer’s Evening on the Quad will this year feature Rebecca Storm as its main attraction. The concert will take place on Friday, July 31st at 8pm.

The concert, now in its fourth year, takes place in the magical setting of the Main Quadrangle, UCC, with all monies raised in aid of two Cork-based charities, Cork Cancer Research Centre and St Laurence Cheshire Home.

The exciting line-up of performers will feature Rebecca Storm who will perform her hits from musical theatre.  Musical director will be  David Munro, backed by The Band of An Garda Síochana and supported by Seraphim.  The evening will be compèred by Martina Carroll, RTE, and hosted by Pascal Scott (Killinaskully).

Organised by UCC General Services’ Security and Community Policing, Barrack Street, with sponsorship generously provided by BAM Building and media sponsorship by the Irish Examiner, it is hoped that this year’s concert will surpass the success of last year’s which raised almost €50,000 for charity and attracted an audience of over 1,200 people.

From the tender age of two, Rebecca Storm has always loved to sing.  At 23, she auditioned for her first musical show “Blood Brothers” and following rave reviews, she was catapulted into the world of musical theatre, playing some of the most demanding roles ever written for leading ladies: Eva Peron in EVITA, Fantine in Les Miserables, Grizabella in CATS, Florence in CHESS, Rose in ASPECTS OF LOVE, Edith Piaf in PIAF, Joan of Arc in JEANNE, and more…  Over her 25 year career which has spanned theatre, television and recordings, Rebecca has risen to international stardom in musical theatre, touring all around the world and selling out in numerous theatres including the Glasgow Concert Hall, the Point Theatre Dublin, the Olavshallen Theatre, Norway, amongst many others.

Having started his musical life as a concert pianist, Glasgow-born David Munro has also achieved great success as a musical director, conductor, composer and arranger in most aspects of music making.  David has written numerous works for stage and orchestra which have been produced and broadcast throughout the world, as well as working with popular Irish artists including Sinéad O’Connor, Phil Coulter, Moya Brennan, Brian Kennedy, The Dubliners and The Celtic Divas.

Eight young Cork women combine their voices to become the sound of Seraphim.  With a repertoire that includes songs and arrangements by contemporary composers Michael Holohan, Bob Chilcott, Alan Cutts and most extensively the works of CSL Parker, Seraphim have appeared on Carols from Cork (RTE, 2005), the closing ceremonies of the Cork 2005 celebrations (RTE, 2005) and widely on the KTV network in Japan.  In July 2006, Seraphim toured Japan as part of the EU-Japan Fest, which finished with a performance for the Irish Ambassador in his residence in Tokyo.

The Cork Cancer Research Centre is dedicated to bringing new cancer treatments and preventative measures to patients and is a collaboration between cancer clinicians and scientists, focused on a single purpose, advancing new treatments through research.

With a mission to provide quality, person-centred services which facilitate people with disabilities to live a life of their own choosing, Cheshire Ireland, in partnership with the Health Services Executive, provides a range of supported accommodation, respite and other services to adults with physical disabilities.  Founded in 1964, St Laurence Cheshire Home provides accommodation for 30 residents and 3 people availing of short-term respite care.
