New technology for Green Energy
18.05.2009

Wirelite Sensors Ltd., and Tyndall National Institute, UCC have announced a strategic partnership agreement supported by Enterprise Ireland to develop new wireless sensor platforms for energy monitoring in commercial and retail buildings.
The partnership will develop systems for businesses to monitor and curtail energy usage. The key benefits of this system are its ease of installation into existing buildings and its low cost through reduced energy usage and lower CO2 emissions into the environment without compromising comfort.

Buildings today account for 40% of the world s energy use (World Business Council for Sustainable Development). The resulting carbon emissions are substantial and running costs are increasingly onerous for retail and commercial building operators. According to Michael Phelan, CEO, Wirelite Sensors, Wireless technology is key to enabling the retrofit energy and demand management market. By partnering with Tyndall, Wirelite Sensors accelerates its new product development for market entry and helps us to build a sustainable competitive advantage in this emerging market. Clients who adopt this new Green Energy technology will enjoy lower energy usage resulting in lower costs and CO2 emissions into the environment.

As part of a €20 million industry/academia cluster of smart building energy management projects, Tyndall is developing and deploying integrated wireless sensing solutions to enable the design and maintenance of next generation energy-efficient buildings. Tyndall has built an extensive knowledge base of knowhow through research activities in Wireless Sensor Networks over the past ten years. This Enterprise Ireland funded innovation partnership with Wirelite provides an excellent opportunity to focus research on industry development roadmaps and support a new high growth company in Ireland.

“Businesses are constantly looking for effective ways to conserve energy and reduce building operation costs in an easy and non-disruptive way. Tyndall’s wireless sensor technology together combined with Wirelite's energy management solutions will enable the development of the next generation wireless sub metering and energy management solutions for building operators”, commented Tyndall CEO, Roger Whatmore.
