15.05.2009

Domenico Campa, a PhD student in Accounting at UCC has been successful in the Irish Accounting and Finance Association (IAFA) Masters/Doctoral Research Funding Competition.
Domenico, who hails from Lecce in the south of Italy, began his PhD studies at UCC in September 2008.  Before coming to UCC, Domenico was awarded an MSc degree from Universitê Bocconi, Milan and later worked there as a research assistant.  He is researching the influence of corporate governance on earnings management under the supervision of Dr Ray Donnelly.  One of the main focuses of his research is the differential influence of corporate governance mechanisms on earnings management in common law (Ireland/UK) and code law countries (Italy).

Domenico was awarded the funding on the basis of his research plans and design as well as his presentation at the IAFA doctoral colloquium at UCD earlier this month.   This is not the first time that Domenico has represented UCC with distinction.  He was also a member of the UCC team which won the European section of the Chartered Financial Analysts Global research challenge in April.  Domenico will present the results of his research at the 2010 Doctoral Colloquium at the University of Ulster.
