Judge of the European Court of Justice visits Faculty of Law, UCC

Judge Aindrias Ó Caoimh, who is the Irish Judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, visited UCC on Thursday, January 8th 2009 and delivered a lecture to students at the Faculty of Law.
Judge Ó Caoimh spoke on the role of national court judges and judges of the European Court of Justice from a comparative perspective. Dr Michael Murphy, President UCC formally welcomed Judge Ó Caoimh to the University.

Welcoming Judge Ó Caoimh to the Faculty of Law, Professor Caroline Fennell, Dean of the Faculty of Law, emphasised the strong tradition of research and teaching in the area of European Union law at UCC.

“The Faculty of Law has a strong commitment to the field of European Union law and has developed a particular expertise in areas such as environmental law and competition law in recent years. We are proud of the fact that so many of our graduates have won scholarships to pursue further studies in European Union law and that many of them now hold office at the European Commission and the European Court of Justice”, she added.

In particular, Professor Fennell thanked Judge Ó Caoimh for hosting the annual visit to the European Court of Justice by staff and students from the Faculty of Law, UCC.
