The 19th Annual Conference of the European Second Language Association (EUROSLA) will take place in UCC on 2-5 September. The conference is the leading international forum for Second Language Acquisition research, which is concerned with theoretical and experimental approaches to exploring the processes and mechanisms underlying the phenomenon of language development beyond one’s first language
The plenary speakers at the conference are: Paul Meara (University of Swansea) ‘Aristotle’s spider and the web of words’, Aneta Pavlenko (Temple University, Philadelphia) ‘Bilingualism and thought’, Vera Regan (University College, Dublin) ‘Sociolinguistic competence and identity in second language acquisition. A research programme’, and Ema Ushioda (University of Warwick) ‘Motivation and SLA: Bridging the gap’.
