Distinguished Scholar to deliver History Lecture at UCC
23.03.2009

Irish migration from the Beara Peninsula to the Michigan Copper Country will be focus of a public lecture taking place at UCC on Thursday next, March 26th.
Professor William Mulligan, a Fulbright Scholar at the Department of History, UCC and Professor of History in Murray State University will deliver a talk titled: "From Beara to Keweenaw, Irish Miners in the Michigan Copper Country, 1845-1920."

The talk is hosted by the Department of History, UCC. "It is a great pleasure to have a distinguished scholar of Irish America in the History Department for the Spring semester. I am particularly looking forward to his lecture on a topic which will be of singular interest to those from the Beara Peninsula and the surrounding region.  Similarly, Professor Mulligan stated: "I have very much enjoyed my time in UCC, and appreciate being given the opportunity to discuss my research with a wide audience. While the Beara Peninsula and Butte Montana connection is well known, exploring the connection with the Michigan Copper Mines offers further insights into both this link and the Butte, Michigan relationship."

The talk will be delivered at 7.30pm, Boole II Lecture Theatre, UCC on Thursday, March 26th. Members of the public are invited to attend and admission is free.
