Climate Change and the Psychology of Risk and Response
25.05.2009

A lecture on what can be learned about attitudes to climate change will be the subject of the final lecture at UCC on climate change and its implications for the future of society.
Mark Rutledge, Country Director – Ireland, The Ecology Foundation will discuss understanding the inertia facing the challenge about attitudes to climate change drawing insights from psychology, evolutionary psychology and game theory.

The lecture titled “Climate Change and the Psychology of Risk and Response” will be delivered on Wednesday, May 27th at 8pm in Boole III Lecture Theatre.

Prior to joining the Ecology Foundation, Mark Rudledge, who graduated with an MSc in environmental science, previously worked with the carbon division of EPS Consulting Ltd.  He is consultant to the Irish parliamentary committee on Climate Change and Energy Security and has lectured extensively on climate change in Ireland and the UK.

The Ecology Foundation, in association with Siemens Ireland and in collaboration with the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, UCC, has presented a series of lectures designed to educate and encourage undergraduate and graduate students to assess how they can play a role in meeting the challenge of tackling climate change.  The lectures have not only focused on the challenge of climate change, but also on the positive role science, engineering, innovation and business can make by addressing it.

The Ecology Foundation believes that the lectures will be of distinct value to all students, particularly to those studying engineering and business disciplines, and also to the general public.

The lectures have been hosted by UCC as an extension of the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science 2009 Public Lecture Series.  Admission is free and all are welcome.
