Unique Opportunity for the Unemployed

An initiative for the unemployed to obtain a third level qualification in Information Technology (IT) is now available with the commencement in September 2008 of the next cycle of the two-year Diploma in Applied Business Computing.
University College Cork (UCC), Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), in collaboration with Cork City Partnership are offering a second chance to those who wish to pursue a third level education qualification without a fee. Aimed at the unemployed, single mothers, people on disability, the Diploma aims to give individuals highly relevant IT skills. Course books are provided free of charge and students can also avail of maintenance grants.

The programme, taught at a dedicated facility in Farranferris, Cork City, covers computer networks and IT infrastructures, database design and development, computer programming, web design and development, Information Systems for Business, Introduction to Accounting, Introduction to Economics. 

Noel Browne, 2006 graduate speaking about the benefits of the Diploma said: "We as students in this course do not see ourselves as mature students but as students with more life experiences.  Therefore, we see this course as a second chance and not a last chance at a university education."

The Diploma is awarded by UCC at a conferring ceremony at the end of the two year cycle.
