UCC Electrical Engineering PhD student wins prestigious MIDAS national design award

The Microelectronic Industry Design Association (MIDAS) recently announced Donal Cronin as the recipient of their best published paper award for 2007/2008 in the field of integrated circuit design.
Donal is currently completing his PhD studies in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at UCC under the supervision of Dr Alan Morrison. The award was made for their paper titled "Intelligent system for optimal hold-off time selection in an active quench and reset IC", published in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, one of the premier journals of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, USA. This work was supported by Dr Morrison's Science Foundation Ireland Principal Investigator grant.

Donal's award was presented to him at the recent Irish Signals & Systems Conference by the Chairman of MIDAS, Dr Seán Foley of Cypress Semiconductor. The prize carries a bursary of €1500.
