The Awards were announced at a ceremony on Friday last (February 22nd 2008) in Killashee House Hotel, Naas, Co Kildare. Despite a very competitive group of short-listed candidates in the public sector category, UCC received the top award in recognition of consistently high levels of investment, the strategic approach to evaluation with best practice demonstrated through a policy of follow up and performance review.

The Irish Institute of Training and Development (IITD) is the professional association representing training and HRD (human resource development) professionals in Ireland.  Charged with guaranteeing best practice in training and development in Ireland, the Institute's remit includes the identification, implementation and monitoring of international standards; continual research and bench-marking and the provision of professional education in training and development to influence key stakeholders and policy makers.
 
Now in its tenth year, the IITD National Training Awards aim to recognise organisations which demonstrate best practice and an ongoing commitment to training & developing their people, in particular its internal training capacity to meet the competitive challenges in a constantly changing environment. A record number of entries were received for this year's awards, which the Institute - the association representing Irish training and HRD (human resource development) professionals in Ireland - believes is testament to how the awards recognise and celebrate hard work and dedication, in a way that standard qualifications do not.
