"Talking Science" Research Day - February 8th 2008
05.02.2008

UCC's Biochemistry Department will host its first bi-annual Research day on Friday, February 8th in the Multifunctional Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn.
This one-day event titled "Talking Science" is a new initiative by the Biochemistry Department which aims to bring researchers and students together in an informal setting to share knowledge and expertise.

"Talking Science" showcases the diversity of research in the Biochemistry Department ranging from Molecular Genetics, to RNA recoding and Proteomics. The department is spread over three locations on the university campus and is comprised of 15 research labs, 30 Postdoctoral researchers and more than 40 Postgraduate students.

The speakers at the inaugural "Talking Science" research day reflect the diversity of research ongoing in the department ranging from experienced postdoctoral researchers to early stage PhD students. Biochemistry students and researchers are also invited to bring posters representing their research, which attendees can visit throughout the day. There will be an opportunity for other department members to give a talk at the next "Talking Science" day later in June.

The Research Day has been organised by members of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society set up by students and staff in 2007.
