Summer Academy 2008
01.07.2008

The third UCC Summer Academy took place on campus last week (June 23rd -27th 2008) with 95 Transition and Fifth Year students from Munster, Dublin, Wexford, Kilkenny and Offaly taking part.
The week started on Monday with ice-breaking activities and an afternoon in the Mardyke and continued into the week with students attending workshops in areas where they had a specific interest. Each student attended five workshops according to their own individual timetable. Each evening the group attended social activities and on Thursday had the opportunity to attend the Corcadorca production The Hairy Ape in the Southern Fruit Warehouse on Centre Park Road.

In terms of the students' enjoyment, the week was an outstanding success due to the much appreciated co-operation and contribution of staff from many Departments, Schools and administrative offices across the University and especially from the most helpful and enthusiastic team of Student Ambassadors.

Nearly 200 applicants competed for a place on the Summer Academy on the basis of their Junior Certificate results and/or on the basis of an award or achievement in any category including sports, drama, debating, public speaking, science and many more.
