Senator Eoghan Harris to deliver lecture at UCC
21.02.2008

UCC Film Studies, in association with the Department of English, has pleasure in welcoming Senator Eoghan Harris back to his alma mater for a guest lecture on Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch.
Formerly, a central figure in the cultural affairs programming at RTE, Senator Harris has worked in journalism, currently contributing a column to the Sunday Independent, as the writer of the Sharpe television series, and as script editor, writer and lecturer in screenwriting.  On August 3rd 2007 he was nominated to an Seanad by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

In the presentation, titled: "The Wild Bunch - Mindless Violence or a Meditation on Masculine Values?", Senator Harris will consider the film with reference to the generic context of the Western and its code, by reading it with a gender position in mind.

The lecture takes place on Tuesday, February 26th in Boole Lecture Room 2 at 6pm.  It will be followed by a session of questions and answers.  Members of the public are invited to attend and admission is free.
