Poet, Derek Mahon to give Public Reading at UCC
28.10.2008

Poet, Derek Mahon, one of the most acclaimed poets writing in English today, will give a Public Reading at UCC on Wednesday, October 29th at 5pm in Boole II Lecture Theatre.
Born in Belfast, and now resident in Kinsale, Derek Mahon was educated at Trinity College Dublin and the Sorbonne.  He was recognised from the very beginning as an exceptional talent and has continued to produce a line of books that have earned him a range of awards from the Irish Academy of Letters Award to the David Cohen Prize in recognition of a lifetime's achievement in literature.  Derek Mahon's poetry is accessible and memorable. He speaks to us with apparent familiarity about everyday life but, thanks to the unforced elegance of his technique, we are pleased to discover long afterwards that images and phrases from his poems have become part of us.

The Reading is hosted by the English Department.  Admission is free and all are welcome.
