Major Conference on European Union Law at University College Cork
26.01.2016

UCC’s Law Society will host its 8th Annual Law Conference on Thursday, November 27th 2008. Titled “The Impact of European Union law in Ireland”, the conference is timely in light of the recent referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and the ongoing debate on Ireland’s relationship with the European Union.

Since its inception, the Annual Law Conference has drawn an audience of students, academics, the legal profession and members of the judiciary.

This year’s conference will consider various aspects of European Union law in Ireland including its impact on business life, its role in day to day legal proceedings and its continuing impact on every aspect of life in Ireland.

The speakers include: Mr Paul Gallagher SC, Attorney General; Mr Vincent Power, Partner, A&L Goodbody Solicitors; Dr Angela Ward BL and Mr John Gaffney, Partner, O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors.

Commenting on the conference the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Caroline Fennell stated that the conference was evidence of the continuing efforts of UCC law students to stimulate debate on ongoing issues of topical concern to those involved in law and to the wider community. “It is to the credit of the conference organising committee that they have put together such an impressive line up of speakers, all of whom are leaders in their respective areas of specialisation”, she added.

The conference, which is generously sponsored by William Fry Solicitors, runs from 9.15am-1.30pm at Áras na Mac Léinn/Student Centre, UCC.
