Changing Face Opens at Glucksman
23.04.2008

Changing Face which opens tomorrow (April 24th 2008) at the Glucksman, is a video work consisting of a series of sixty-two portraits of young women currently participating in the Glucksman's schools programme, Picturing our World.

The pupils of five Cork-based schools have been working with artists during this school year as part of the Picturing our World programme, which is generously supported by Cork City Council and private donors, and aims to increase visual literacy and awareness among the participating young people.

Changing Face was facilitated and produced by artist Lisa Fingleton.  Lisa conducted a series of workshops in the Glucksman and the five schools, introducing pupils to Pop Artist, Andy Warhol, whose work is currently exhibited in the Glucksman. Changing Face is based on Andy Warhol's screen tests from the 1960s. Each student posed for one minute in front of a video camera. The students were subsequently introduced to film-editing techniques and worked with the artist to edit their own portraits. The portraits of these young Cork-based women are a celebration of youth, personal development and diversity.

The five participating schools are: St Aloysius Secondary School; St Angela's College; St Maries of the Isle NS; St Patrick's Girls NS; Sunday's Well NS.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 24th, visitors to the Glucksman will also have the opportunity to view animated videos made by children who took part in the Glucksman Art Club during Easter this year. Twenty-five children aged between 8 and 12 years old worked over a two week period with designer Sinead Cliffe. The animations were inspired by the current Andy Warhol exhibition, and incorporate many references to familiar commercial products.  These short animations will be on view in the Glucksman for the evening from 5-8pm.

Changing Face will be on display in the Glucksman from April 24th until June 8th.
